Role Summary: 

The Inventory Accountant is responsible for assisting the Accounting Manager, Reporting with monitoring and reporting profitability at the unit and project levels.  This role will evaluate actual performance against budgets and recommend action required to correct deficiencies in performance and/or budgeting.  Where necessary this person will establish budgets in cooperation with the estimating department, operations, and other members of the Financial Services Team.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Assist Estimating and Sales in establishing base house and upgrade costs along with updates to Price Lists and the Agent Price Book, including prioritizing the addition of new items and quarterly reviews for cost increases and impact on current pricing
  • Preparation of project and unit profitability analyses to assist Marketing in the selection and pricing of saleable product and Land Development in the determination of target purchase prices on available land
  • Establish individual cost budgets for each sold lot, including any related amendments to the APS for pre-accounting input for subsequent comparison to actual costs, and producing lot cost variance reporting
  • Develop and maintain reports to evaluate project profitability
  • Participate in one-off analysis as required
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Assist with project and departmental budget preparation and analyze reports against actuals for budget managers
  • Assist department managers as requested
  • Other duties as assigned
  • University or college diploma in accounting and enrolled in the CPA designation program
  • Demonstrated ability to implement new ideas using their entrepreneurial spirit
  • Proven ability to apply accounting policy/theory to practical experiences
  • Excellent written, verbal and time management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a team setting
  • Above average ability to work on numerous projects/tasks simultaneously; and prioritize effectively
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with a particularly strong aptitude in MS Excel
  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics SL and / or Newstar an asset
